Waterstone on High Ridge Creates Art Galley with Art Historian
Darby Cartun will lecture on American Impressionists September 9 at Greenwich Historical Society

STAMFORD, CT.- (August 31, 2021) – Darby Cartun has been bringing art to life for people ever since she can remember. The art historian, longtime Greenwich resident and local radio talk show host is happiest when sharing her love for art. She teaches lifetime learners at Norwalk Community College and has lectured at more than 20 assisted living facilities in the Fairfield County area. Now Darby is working on a new project with Waterstone of High Ridge, a new senior living community currently under construction in Stamford, curating an art gallery there.
On September 9 at 10:30 a.m. Cartun will launch the partnership with Waterstone on High Ridge with a special art history program at Greenwich Historical Society on American Impressionism, specifically the Cos Cob Colony in Greenwich from the early 1890s until the 1920s. Bush Holley House in Greenwich was the gathering place for this group of artists and writers. It was the first Impressionist art colony in Connecticut and played a major role in the development of American art. Among the early members were Childe Hassam, Elmer MacRae, Theodore Robinson, John Henry Twachtman and J. Alden Weir.
Cartun said that when she first started teaching adults she was struck by how engaged they were and by how much they had to offer.

“Growing older should not be about being left behind,’’ said Cartun. “These people have had rich and wonderful lives. There is no reason to negate their experience for culture and learning. It’s my joy to work with them.’’
Wendy Kaufman, Executive Director of Waterstone on High Ridge, said that Cartun will be assisting Waterstone on High Ridge in creating an art gallery on site. The gallery will be the focus on an art history and enrichment program that will include lectures and other activities.
