Whitby School Announces 2021-2022 Trustees Merit Scholarship

GREENWICH, CT — Whitby School announced this week they are accepting applications for the Whitby Trustees Merit Scholarship, which will provide a full-tuition scholarship to a distinguished and accomplished new student entering Grade 5 or Grade 6 in fall of 2021.

"The continued funding of the merit scholarship program demonstrates the Whitby Trustees' belief in the importance of the middle school years," Jack Creeden said in a statement. "Whitby Middle School students are not in a high school 'waiting room.' They are school leaders now, and they are actively engaged in a variety of student-led initiatives. They are developing skills and self-confidence that prepares them for a successful transition to the secondary school of their choice."

Applicants for the scholarships must differentiate themselves as academically strong students, exceptional leaders and have a track record of involvement in extra-curricular activities.

The scholarship selection process includes submitting an essay and an interview with the Scholarship Selection Committee.

The Scholarship Selection Committee will consider the following in the assessment of each candidate:

• Record of academic success, including the candidate's transcripts and recommendations.
• Academic potential, as measured by results from Whitby faculty-administered assessments.
• Perceived character as a principled citizen or the potential to make a notable contribution to Whitby community life, as measured by the scholarship essay and the Selection Committee interview.

For more than 62 years, Whitby has endeavored to inspire young students with a passion for learning and empower each child to take responsibility as an open-minded, principled citizen in a global community. The Whitby Trustees Merit Scholarship will further these aims and amplify the rewards of the school's educational continuum, using the world-renowned Montessori and International Baccalaureate models that prepare each child, uniquely, for success in his/her life-long learning journey.

The deadline for applications is Jan. 15, 2021. Winners of the Whitby Trustees Merit Scholarship will be notified in late February 2021.
