Connecticut Weather: Winter Storm Warning Issued for Wednesday

Every few hours it seems snow accumulation estimates keep increasing for this major snowstorm. Here are the latest details.

A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for the entire state as a long duration snowstorm will dump up to a foot or more of snow on Connecticut Wednesday. The only exception to this is New London County, which could still see up to six inches of snow.

The snow is expected to impact the Wednesday morning commute and during the evening commute the snow should be at its heaviest. The snow should end prior to the Thursday morning commute but we'll all need to set aside extra time to dig out. Some areas of the state could approach 18 inches of snow, the weather service says.

For Fairfield, New Haven and Middlesex counties, the weather service says 6 to 12 inches of snow is expected on the coast and 10 to 15 inches is possible inland.

"Heaviest snow expected Wednesday afternoon into early Thursday morning. The Wednesday evening rush hour is expected to be significantly impacted where precipitation is falling as heavy snow," the weather service says. "Travel could be very difficult where precipitation remains heavy snow with the potential for 2 to 3 inch per hour snowfall rates. Significant reductions in visibility are possible."

For Litchfield County, 13 to 17 inches of snow are expected and some locations could see up to 20 inches.

And here are the predictions and thoughts from the state's weather experts.
