Woman Used Fake Bills At Greenwich Store: Police
Police said a woman was charged with forgery after attempting to use counterfeit money at a Greenwich store.

GREENWICH, CT — A woman was charged with forgery after attempting to use fake bills at a Greenwich store, according to police. On Thursday around 4:45 p.m., officers responded to a store on Greenwich Avenue after receiving a report of a woman trying to make a purchase with counterfeit money, police said.
Officers arrived and found a woman matching the description exiting the store. She was later identified as Melleisa Alvaranga, 36, of Brooklyn, N.Y., police said.
After further investigation, officers discovered Alvaranga had five counterfeit $100 bills in her possession. She had also previously tried to use the counterfeit bills at another store, police said.

Alvaranga was arrested on charges of first-degree forgery and criminal attempt at sixth-degree larceny.
