GREENWICH, CT — Quick work by police and marina workers helped save a life Tuesday after a woman fell from an Interstate 95 bridge into the Mianus River, said Capt. Mark E. Zuccerella.

On Tuesday afternoon, police responded to a call from Connecticut State Police requesting assistance with a woman "sitting on the edge of the I-95 Northbound bridge over the Mains River, between Exits 4 and 5."

A patrol officer was able to speak with the woman and while this occurred other members of Greenwich police, along with the assistance of area marina workers, were able to take a position in a work boat underneath the bridge, police said.

In a statement, Zuccerella said, "Mental health issues can make life unbearable for the people who have them. At the same time, these problems can have a wider effect on society as a whole, especially when they go untreated or treatment is delayed."

"The Greenwich Police Department would like to remind the Greenwich community there are many ways to get help, as well as assistance for family members. The Town of Greenwich Department of Human Services in partnership with the Greenwich Police Department and numerous community based agencies created Greenwich C.A.R.E. (Community Agencies for Resiliency and Empowerment) to offer help, support, and guidance for those in need."
