World's Most Expensive Sculpture Bought by Greenwich Resident

A record $141 million was paid for Alberto Giacometti's life-sized sculpture 'Man Pointing.'

Greenwich billionaire Steven Cohen reportedly is the buyer of the world’s most expensive sculpture, Alberto Giacometti’s ‘Man Pointing,’ that sold for $141.3 million in an auction last month at Christie’s.

The New York Post is reporting that Cohen, who dismantled his SAC Capital hedge fund among federal legal woes last year, is the buyer of the life-sized sculpture. The newspaper reports that it is the second Giacometti sculpture Cohen has purchased in recent months. In November, Cohen reportedly spent $101 million at a Sotheby’s auction for Giacometti’s 1950 sculpture “The Chariot.”

Cohen, who has amassed a vast art collection, regularly loans pieces to museums, including the Bruce Museum in Greenwich.
