Yankees Superstar Aaron Judge Visits Greenwich's Coffee For Good

The Yankees captain and reigning American League MVP stopped by the popular coffee shop this week.

GREENWICH, CT — Employees and customers at Coffee For Good in Greenwich received quite a surprise on Monday afternoon when New York Yankees superstar Aaron Judge stopped by.

Located at 48 Maple Ave., inside the Mead House just steps away from the Second Congregational Church, Coffee For Good is a nonprofit, high-end coffee shop that aims to provide job training in a real-life setting to employees with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

"Aaron Judge stopped by Coffee for Good yesterday! The trainees, staff, customers and Foxy (service puppy in training) were all thrilled to meet this NY Yankee superstar!" Coffee For Good said in a social media post Tuesday.

Coffee For Good Executive Director Deb Rogan said Judge took his order to go — a mocha and a cold brew. But first, he took time to take photos with several staff members.

Judge also happened to visit at the same time a local service dog trainer came to train her puppy, Foxy, Rogan said. A noted dog lover who has two Dachshunds, Judge posed for a picture with the puppy, too.

It's unclear why Judge was in Greenwich. Several Yankees have lived in town over the years, including current Yankees starting pitcher Gerrit Cole and manager Aaron Boone.

Judge, 31, is originally from Linden, Calif., and was drafted 32nd overall by the Yankees in the 2013 MLB Amateur Draft. He debuted in 2016 and won the American League Rookie of the Year Award the following year.

In 2022, Judge had one of the best seasons in baseball history when he set the AL record with 62 home runs, breaking Roger Maris's 61-year-old record of 61. Judge won the 2022 AL Most Valuable Player Award.

Over the following offseason, Judge signed a massive nine-year, $360 million contract to stay in pinstripes likely for the rest of his career. Team owner Hal Steinbrenner named Judge the 16th captain in franchise history, and the first since Derek Jeter who retired in 2014.

Judge had another solid season in 2023 despite dealing with a toe injury for most of the year and playing in just 106 games. However, the Yankees failed to make the playoffs for the first time since 2016.

Coffee For Good, which has partnered with Abilis, another local nonprofit that provides services and support for people with disabilities, held a grand opening celebration in June 2021.

The self-sustaining coffee shop employs trainees who graduate and can move on and use their newly developed skills in other jobs. The shop offers a variety of pastries, baked goods, sandwiches, salads and coffee and tea beverages.
