1 Dead After Armored Car Hits Disabled Vehicle On Gold Star Bridge

The collision happened shortly before 6:45 p.m. Thursday on southbound Interstate 95 in Groton, state police said.

GROTON, CT — A woman who was in the backseat of a disabled vehicle died after an armored car crashed into it on the Gold Star Bridge, state police said.

The collision happened shortly before 6:45 p.m. Thursday on southbound Interstate 95 in Groton, according to a Connecticut State Police crash report.

Police said a 52-year-old man from Indiana was driving a Ford Edge near the Exit 83 ramp when the car experienced mechanical failure. According to police, the vehicle stopped within the southbound lanes of the Gold Star Bridge.

Police said an armored car driven by a 37-year-old New London woman crashed into the back of the disabled Ford.

The driver of the Ford and a second passenger were taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The third passenger — identified as 76-year-old Evelyn Diment of Winamac, Indiana — suffered serious injuries in the crash and was taken to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital, where she later died.

.The driver of the armored car was also treated for minor injuries, police said.
