16-year-old Faces Armed Robbery Charge, Will Be Tried as Adult

The child allegedly held a BB gun to another child's head and demanded money.

A 16-year-old Groton resident will be tried as an adult for armed robbery charges.

According to an article at theday.com, Tyonni Hernandez, who lives at the New England Adolescent Treatment Center, is accused of holding a BB gun to another child’s head and demanding the child get $20 from his mother.
The treatment center is a group home for troubled youths, theday.com said.

Hernandez faces charges of first-degree robbery, illegal use of a facsimile firearm, carrying a dangerous weapon, sixth-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery and conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny.

The 16-year-old appeared in New London Superior Court Wednesday. The case was continued to Oct. 8, theday.com reported.
