$19,000 Diamond Ring Stolen from Mystic Store

Groton Police are seeking the public's help in identifying the people suspected of stealing a diamond ring from a Mystic jewelry store.

The Groton Town Police Department is investigating a larceny that occurred on Tuesday, July 29, at the NL Shaw Jewelry store, 50 West Main St., Mystic.

Around 4 p.m. that day, a man entered the business and asked to see some of the jewelry. While the employees were busy, the man allegedly reached over the glass case and took a diamond ring valued at more than $19,000.

“The male is described as a Middle Eastern-looking male in his mid-30s, wearing a green short sleeve button down shirt and jeans,” according to Groton police. “Entering the store immediately before the suspect was a woman who was described as a tall Asian Pacific female wearing a red jacket, white shirt and jeans.”

She allegedly attempted to sell a valuable ring and a sizable amount of gold to the jeweler and when denied, left the store. The female’s actions and conduct led investigators to believe the man and woman were working in concert with one another, police said.

If anyone recognizes either suspect, call the Groton Town Police Department at 860-441-6712.
