88-Year-Old Groton Woman Dies After New London Parking Lot Accident

Police have released the identity of an elderly woman who died due to injuries suffered in a Wednesday accident.

GROTON, CT — An 88-year-old woman who was hit by a vehicle while crossing a New London parking lot has died due to her injuries, according to police.

The victim was identified as Geneva DeLarby of Groton Long Point, police said.

Police responded to a report of a car vs. pedestrian accident at the New London Shopping Center parking lot off South Frontage Road at 12:18 p.m. Wednesday.

A vehicle had struck DeLarby as she walked across the lot leaving one of the shopping center's businesses.

Police provided medical aid until the arrival of the New London Fire Department and Yale New Haven Hospital Paramedic.

The woman suffered serious, life-threatening injuries and was taken to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital for treatment. She was in critical condition Wednesday and later died at the hospital.

The 25-year-old Oakdale woman driving the vehicle remained at the scene of the accident and is cooperating with police.

Investigation into the crash is ongoing.
