Sophomore right-hander Connor Osier struck out 15 over eight innings, allowing just two hits and sending MCC on to the Division II East District championship.

2. Water taxi adds regular Nautilus stop (theday.com) — A seasonal water taxi route on the Thames River will add a regular stop near Fort Griswold State Park and highlight Groton sites like Groton Congregational Church and Avery Copp House. Starting June 6, the expanded circuit will link Groton and New London cultural attractions with themed tours, youth programming, and new partnerships aimed at boosting local history tourism.

3. New L+M assessment identifies top community health issues (theday.com) — Residents in Groton are part of a new Lawrence + Memorial Hospital assessment that flags behavioral health, chronic disease, and prenatal and maternal care as top priorities for the Greater New London region. The report highlights racial and income disparities in hospitalizations and prenatal outcomes, and outlines plans for expanded mental health training, chronic disease programs, and new family medicine training to improve access to care by 2028.

4. The U.S. Navy Sank Its Own Nuclear Submarine at the Dock — Two Work Crews Filled the Ballast Tanks Without Coordinating (nationalsecurityjournal.org) — Groton gets a brief mention as the homeport of the USS Philadelphia in a wider look at how another nuclear submarine, USS Guitarro, accidentally sank at its dock in 1969. The piece explains how miscommunication between work crews and a fragmented command structure led to the costly incident, and how the Navy overhauled its procedures afterward.
