GROTON, CT — A woman is accused of pulling a gun and releasing a large pit bull during an incident over the weekend, City of Groton police said.

A caller reported to police at 4:58 p.m. Saturday that a woman had shown a gun during a confrontation on Poquonnock Road.

The caller said that she and a male passenger were being followed and threatened by an armed person.

The victims told police that the incident began when a woman drove into the oncoming lane, cut off their vehicle, then repeatedly blocked their attempts to pass, police said.

The woman exited her vehicle, released a large pit bull and approached them while holding a black handgun. She pointed the gun at both victims while shouting threats, police said. The victims then fled and called 911.

Based on a description of the woman and her vehicle, police went to the home of Latazia Wheeler, 30, of Groton.

Wheeler did not cooperate with police. When she was told she was under arrest, she began pulling away from officers and refused to comply, police said.

Officers had to physically carry Wheeler, during which she continued to resist arrest and kicked officers multiple times, striking one officer, according to police.

Police seized a handgun as evidence.

Wheeler was charged with first-degree threatening with a firearm, second-degree breach of peace, interfering with an officer and assault on a public safety officer.

She was held on $100,000 cash/surety bond and scheduled to appear in court Monday.
