1. Check Out Groton Beaches' Grades On Water Quality Report (patch.com) — Groton swimmers can now see how their favorite beaches scored in Save the Sound’s latest Long Island Sound water quality report, with Esker Point, Noank Dock, and Eastern Point all graded. The report explains how frequent testing for fecal indicator bacteria helps protect public health and notes that none of the failing beaches were in Connecticut.
2. Port Authority again seeks federal funds for Groton fuel facility (theday.com) — Groton’s Buckeye fuel terminal, the region’s main heating oil hub, is again the focus of a major federal grant bid that could determine whether it stays open. The Connecticut Port Authority and Buckeye are seeking $11.2 million for critical upgrades, with officials warning closure could spike fuel costs, strain winter heating, and push more truck traffic onto already stressed highways.
3. New bridge in Groton will keep hikers safe, boots dry (theday.com) — A new volunteer-built bridge in Groton’s Merritt Family Forest now lets hikers and cyclists cross Cowslip Brook safely and stay dry, while protecting the trail from erosion. Local volunteers, including a Groton town councilor and GOSA members, spent days hauling materials and constructing the span and boardwalk, improving access for school groups and everyday trail users across this key greenbelt area.
4. High school students hired to work at Electric Boat celebrated (theday.com) — Dozens of local students, including many from Groton’s Ella T. Grasso Technical High School, have accepted skilled jobs at Electric Boat, most at the Groton shipyard. At a packed celebration in New London, officials highlighted long-term submarine work, strong pay and benefits, and the growing pipeline from area high schools into EB careers that could last well into the 2040s.
