Man With Ghost Gun Crashes Car, Flees From Cops In Groton, Police Say

GROTON, CT — A man with a ghost gun was charged after crashing his car and fleeing from police on foot.

Town of Groton police responded to a report of a crash at 5:22 a.m. in the area of Poquonnock and Laurelwood roads in Groton. The accident involved a black Audi Q3 and a Volkswagen Beetle.

The Audi's driver had fled on foot toward Laurelwood Road.

A police K-9 team searched for the suspect while officers created a perimeter around the area.

At about 6:30 a.m., perimeter officers saw a man matching the description of the fleeing driver on Buddington Road.

The man attempted to evade officers by fleeing into the woods but was caught a short time later.

Elijah D. Britto-Sebastian, 21, of Norwich, had an AR-15-style rifle without a serial number, which is known as a ghost gun, police said.

He was charged with criminal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, manufacture of a firearm without a serial number, larceny of a motor vehicle, third-degree burglary, and several other drug, gun, and motor vehicle charges.

Britto-Sebastian is a convicted felon who was on probation for gun-related crimes at the time of his arrest.

Police said drugs were found in plain sight in his Audi following the accident.

Also, police learned that the car Britto-Sebastian was driving had been reported stolen out of Enfield on June 12.

He was taken to the police station where he was held on a $500,000 bond.

“Our officers exercised restraint, good tactics and discipline when responding to this incident, resulting in no injuries to the suspect, law enforcement or the public,” Chief Louis J. Fusaro Jr. said in a statement. “This case could have ended so differently if this individual decided to engage our officers. Fortunately, they successfully disarmed the suspect and took him into custody while also getting a dangerous weapon off the streets. That’s a job very well done.”

The investigation remains ongoing.
