Man Charged In Assault, Burglary In Groton: Police

A man is facing charges in a case where a store employee was stabbed multiple times, police say.

GROTON, CT — A man has been charged in connection with an assault and burglary in April, according to City of Groton police.

Two men allegedly entered a business on Route 12 and tried to rob a store employee. Another employee and customers attempted to intervene, police said.

The 911 caller reported that one of the suspects was possibly armed with a large knife. The two suspects fled before police arrived.

The victim had suffered multiple stab wounds, according to police. The victim was taken by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

He also had an undisclosed amount of cash stolen from him.

Following an investigation, police identified Osvaldo Beard-Beltran, 30, of North Haven, as a suspect.

Beard-Beltran was arrested while in custody at New London Superior Court on unrelated charges, according to police.

He was charged with first-degree accessory to burglary, first-degree robbery, first-degree accessory to assault, second-degree accessory to assault and fifth-degree larceny.

He was held on a $250,000 court-set bond.

The incident remains under investigation.
