Man Had Drugs, Large Knife In Groton, Police Say

GROTON, CT — A man is facing drug and weapon charges after police stopped his vehicle in Groton.

City of Groton police made a motor vehicle stop on Clarence B. Sharp Highway on July 31 at 10:50 a.m.

During the investigation, a K-9 was used and alerted police to drugs under the vehicle.

Officers found a magnetic box under the vehicle with a large amount of crack cocaine inside.

The man who police stopped also had a large knife, police said.

James Bowers, 40, of Groton, was charged with possession of narcotics with intent to sell, possession of narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia, weapons in a motor vehicle and failure to display plates.

He was released after posting a $15,000 cash/surety bond. Bowers is due to appear in court Aug. 14.
