Annual Golf Tournament Will Benefit Local Organizations

The Mystic Lions Club Holds Their 25th Annual Charity Golf Tournament Monday.

Monday will mark the 25th year dozens of golfers gather at Stonington Country Club to play in tournament benefiting local organizations.

The Mystic Lions Club hopes this year’s tournament will raise between $10,000 and $12,000. The annual tournament is one of the organizations biggest fundraisers with the proceeds benefiting over 20 charities including MASH, the , the , the and the

“It’s tough out there and we’re all trying to do a little more,” said Mystic Lions Club Member June Valenti.

The Mystic Lions Club provides monetary support on an international, national, state and local level. Valenti said the organization receives letters from charities asking for support and that once a nonprofit is in their system they continue to give.

“Every charitable organization has seen an increase in need,” Valenti said. “Everyone is noticing the economy has not rebounded much in our area.”

Held at the private the charity golf tournament gives people the chance to play on a course that is not often open to the public. The $150 entry fee includes green fees, golf cart, lunch dinner and a gift bag.

is a Gold Sponsor giving $2000 ,which includes entry fees for 2 foursome and 2 tee signs. and Yardney Technical Products are Silver Sponsors giving $1000 each for foursome and tee sign.  Businesses and organizations can purchase tee signs for $100 to advertise.

“It’s an easy way to raise money while getting area businesses names out,” Valenti said of the tee signs.

The charity golf tournament is Monday, June 13 with registration beginning at 11:30 a.m. The Mystic Lions Club may still have spots available but is always looking for people to help out in other ways through donations or even volunteering at events such as the wine tasting festival they will hold later in the year.

“I think it will be as successful as in the past,” Valenti said of the golf tournament.
