Aquarion Water to Prep Mystic For Hook-Up With GU

In preparation for startup of a new water interconnection with Groton Utilities on Route 1, Aquarion will begin a water main cleaning program on the Groton side of Mystic, the Aquarion Water Company announced today.

The water main cleaning will take place between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23.  The streets in Mystic that will be affected by the water main cleaning are:

·         Allyn Street between Edgecomb and Route 1

·         Westward along Route 1 to Judson Avenue

·         Customers on side streets may also be affected

The new interconnection will be opened on Wednesday, July 24 to provide additional water for peak seasonal demands.  At that time, the flow of water will be reversed for the season.

At various times during water main cleaning and startup of the interconnection, water discoloration may occur.  This discoloration results from the temporary disturbance of the water flow, which stirs up naturally occurring minerals, such as iron and manganese.  Aquarion recommends customers store water in their refrigerators for drinking and cooking.  Customers should also refrain from washing laundry if water is discolored.  Prior to resuming use, customers should run their cold water faucets until the water appears clear.
