The snake was placed in a large plastic tub, but the container's lid came loose and the snake managed to escape into the back of a police cruiser. Police then called Jay Johnson, a nuisance wildlife removal specialist who runs a Salem-based service called Critter Cop, according to NBC CT.

Typically, Johnson deals with trapped pests that can be released into the wild. However, in this instance, the roughly 2-year-old ball python was a "very docile" pet snake that either escaped or was released, NBC CT reported.
Currently the snake is at Johnson's home. A local nonprofit will look to give the snake a good home.
