Noank Baptist Church To Mark 50 Years Since Re-opening After Fire

Local Church Celbration

On the Sundays of April 22 and April 29, there will be a 2-part celebration of the re-opening of Noank Baptist Church 50 years ago in a new building following a disastrous major fire that destroyed the older structure on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1959.

The Celebration portion of the April 22 Sunday Service will include discussion of the fire event itself, how the church congregation continued operating at nearby facilities, and how the rebuilding process was accomplished.

On the following Sunday, April 29, there will be a luncheon following the regular service where people may share their experiences during the time of the 1959 fire, the rebuilding process, the first service in the new church on Easter Sunday, April 22 ,1962  plus the later Dedication Service and Music Recital with the new organ on September 16, 1962.

As part of the luncheon celebration on April 29, people attending are asked to bring photographs of themselves taken around the time of the 1962 reopening of the church. This can include people who were church members as well as those who were alive and living elsewhere back then (For example, I have a photo of myself in an Air Force uniform taken in Illinois around April, 1962).

Please call the church office at (860) 536-7129 to make your luncheon reservations. For those people unable to attend the celebrations, you are asked to mail your remembrances to the Noank Baptist Church, 18 Cathedral Heights, Noank, CT 06340 or E-mail admin@noankbaptistchurch.org as soon as possible.
