Butter Knife Seized From Groton Elementary School Student: Police

Faculty members seized a butter knife from a young student Friday, according to Town of Groton police.

GROTON, CT — School faculty members seized a butter knife from a student Friday. The student took it out of their backpack and went into a hallway at Mystic River Magnet School.

Police “became aware of an incident” Wednesday that had occurred at Mystic River Magnet School on Sept. 8.

When police learned about the incident, officers were sent to gather more information and conferred with school officials.

Around the time of dismissal on the afternoon of Sept. 8, a young student took a butter knife from their backpack and entered the hallway. No other students were involved.

Faculty members responded to the student’s actions and intervened by isolating the child and retrieving the butter knife. There were no injuries reported.

Police said that the student did not verbalize any threats to students or faculty.

Police are working with the school district to gather more information.

Police are continuing to investigate to determine if further enforcement action is necessary.
