The Mama Follies: A Lighthearted Tribute to Motherhood!

If you’re looking for a unique way to celebrate mom and Mother’s Day this year—or you just want to enjoy some entertaining local theater—get your tickets to The Mama Follies: A Lighthearted Tribute to Motherhood! This will be Groton Regional Theatre’s third annual Mother’s Day show. While the first two years’ shows ran the gamut from comedy to drama, this year is all about the laughs! Because it’s Groton Regional Theatre’s 30th anniversary, they decided to make this year especially fun so all GRT’s 2026 season shows will be comedies.

The Mama Follies consists of 8 short plays, 6 of which will be world premieres. The topics include finding help for a cantankerous aging mother; mothers one-upping one another to the point of absurdity; moms commiserating about perimenopause, husbands, and teenagers; a group of silly soccer moms at their kids' game; an old-fashioned mom from Italy who thinks nobody is good enough for her son; an older mom getting ready for a date and her dubious daughter; a quartet of Southern sisters squabbling after the death of their elderly mother; and a conversation between Mother Earth, Mars, and Venus. The playwrights are Christine Reynolds, Kate Tokarski, Betsy Kudlacz, Marj O’Neill-Butler, Nathan Rumney, A. Flynn Rumney, and Anna Maria Trusky. The cast features Darla Allen, Meagan Brunelle, Shaughnessy Burns, Jack Hughes, Justine Lavoie, Anjie Leonard, Kathy O’Hara, Christine Reynolds, Linda Rowe Shea, Tom Steenburg, Veronica Strickland, Allison Thorp, Sara Vegas, and Christine Wilbur. The show is co-produced by Allison Thorp and Anna Maria Trusky.

SHOW DATES AND TIMES: Friday, May 8 at 7:30; Saturday, May 9 at 4:00; and Sunday, May 10 at 2:00. For the Sunday performance there will be an optional brunch beginning at 1:00—RESERVATIONS REQUIRED and must be received by Monday, May 4. The Sunday brunch will include scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, fruit, pastries, coffee, tea, orange juice.
TICKETS: $25 for adults, $20 for seniors and students. The brunch is available ONLY with purchase of Sunday ticket and is an add-on fee of $15.
