City Of Groton Declares Open Burn Ban

The city declared a local state of emergency as dry conditions have led to the outbreak of brush fires across the state.

GROTON, CT — City of Groton Mayor Keith Hedrick declared a local state of emergency Nov. 8.

"Due to continued dry conditions and increased fire danger in our area, the declaration serves as an absolute prohibition on all open burning fires within the City of Groton, including but not limited to brush piles, campfires, fire pits, outdoor grilling, and any form of open flame," according to a statement from the city. "All open burning is strictly prohibited even if you have an Open Burning Permit through the Fire Department. The ban shall be enforced by City of Groton Police as well as City of Groton Fire."
