City Of Groton Joins In With Plans For Connecticut'S Coast Guard Summer 2015
City of Groton Working with the Coast Guard and City of New London to Honor of the 225th Anniversary of the Coast Guard

In celebration of Connecticut Coast Guard Summer 2015 designated by Governor Dannel P. Malloy, the City of Groton has joined with the City of New London and other stakeholders in planning events all summer long to honor the long and rich history of the Coast Guard in Southeastern Connecticut.
As New London prepares for the future National Coast Guard Museum on the Thames River waterfront, and the entire Thames River Estuary region prepares for the implementation of the long existing but until now unrealized Thames River Heritage Park, there is no better way to highlight the many historical and cultural resources throughout our Thames River communities while paying tribute to the contributions the Coast Guard, and all our local military installations, have made here.
Says City Mayor Marian Galbraith, “The City of Groton is proud of its historic connection to the Coast Guard and is pleased to be a part of the planning for Coast Guard Summer. Many of our events this summer will include a focus on the Coast Guard’s proud 225 year history.”

The City of Groton will launch its participation in Coast Guard Summer on June 6, the Eastern Point Artisan Craft Show and Fair at the mouth of the Thames. In close view of Ledge Light, the daylong family friendly festival will include a pictorial “History of the Coast Guard” exhibit and the CG Foundation’s Birthday Postcard Project along with an art show, food, kid’s activities and more.
Throughout the summer, scheduled events large and small will highlight the Coast Guard’s legacy in Groton and our shoreline maritime communities. Art exhibitions on loan from the Coast Guard Art Program (COGAP), historical presentations, tours of historic sites and more are planned for Groton City, complementing CG Summer events in New London and surrounding towns. Groton’s capstone event for Coast Guard Summer will be a Thames Street Block Party on Sunday, September 13, featuring multiple exhibits highlighting “Diversity in the Coast Guard” Service in addition to live music, vendors, food, and more.
