Community Shows Support For Families Of Mystic Crash Victims

An accident left one teen dead and three others seriously injured last week and now the community is stepping in to help affected families.

MYSTIC, CT — The community is coming to the aid of families affected by an accident in Mystic that left one teen dead and three others seriously injured.

The accident occurred in the early morning hours of Oct. 14. Police responded and found that a Toyota 4Runner left the road and crashed into the woods, trapping all four people in the SUV.

All four people needed to be extricated by emergency crews. The victims were taken to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

An initial investigation found that the Toyota was driving north on Fishtown Road just south of Mystic River Magnet School when it went across the southbound lane and left the road, striking a tree.

Carson Wilson, 14, of Groton, died in the crash.

Vanessa Ghantous organized a fundraising appeal on behalf of Chris and Sterna Wilson.

"Whether you know the family from lacrosse, hockey, football, dance, school, Chris' business Noank Fence and Construction, or any of the many other community connections they have, please consider making a contribution to allow them time to heal and grieve," the GoFundMe reads.

As of Monday afternoon, $102,455 has been raised on roughly 1,400 donations of a $125,000 target.

Collectively, fundraisers for the victims have raised $170,000.
