
GROTON, CT (June 6, 2013) – Octagon Restaurant received one of the day’s top honors at the recent 32nd Annual Polar Seltzer Great Chowder Cook-Off, held at the Newport Yachting Center in Rhode Island. The Great Chowder Cook-Off, heralded as the largest and longest-running “chowda” championship of its kind, was attended by thousands and featured dozens of the best chowder recipes from across the country. Octagon, the only Connecticut restaurant to enter the competition, received first place in the “Most Creative” category for its famous Dragon Chowder, an Asian-inspired recipe featuring alligator, lobster and skate wing. “We are proud that once again, Octagon’s Dragon Chowder has lived up to its reputation as one of the best chowders around,” commented Octagon’s Executive Chef, Paul Krawic. “It’s a great honor for our culinary team to be recognized for its creativity amongst such a prestigious group of competitors.” Dragon Chowder is a regular menu item at Octagon. This year’s Chowder Cook-Off was open to local, regional and international chefs who work at restaurants, catering companies, and institutional dining facilities, and offered nearly $15,000 in prizes and awards for the chowder competitors as well as the tasters. Chefs competed for top prize in the "Best Clam," "Best Seafood," and "Best Creative" categories.
