Cop Stops Attempted Rape By Man With Prior Sexual Assault Arrests

A Ledyard police officer stopped an attempted rape in progress allegedly perpetrated by a Waterford man with prior sexual assault charges.

GROTON, CT—A 24-year-old Waterford man has been again charged with sexual assault after a Ledyard police officer interrupted, and prevented, a 2 a.m. attempted sexual assault in a driveway near the Ledyard-Groton town line on Aug. 22, according to a report.

The Ledyard officer contacted Groton Police after he saw David Willox of 58 Louise St., Waterford, on top of an woman in a "grassy area near a driveway beside Willox's Lincoln Continental off North Road," The Day wrote citing a police report.

the woman told police she met Willox at a Mystic bar and "agreed to go with him to her house. But later Willox" allegedly took her phone, refused to return it while threatening to rape her, the paper reported, citing police.

Willox allegedly grabbed her out of the car by her hair; she tried to fight him off. The on-patrol Ledyard officer saw Willox on top of her and stopped the assault.

Groton police charged Willox with criminal attempt at first-degree sexual assault, first-degree unlawful restraint, second-degree breach of peace and second-degree reckless endangerment.

Willox is being held on a $200,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in New London Superior Court on Sept. 19.

Court records show that in July 2017, Willox was charged with fourth-degree sexual assault by Waterford Police. He was released on a $25,000 bond.

A year later, in July of 2018, he is again arrested by Waterford Police and charged with assault with a firearm, assault, reckless endangerment, strangulation, unlawful restraint, threatening and interfering with an emergency call.

In that case he was again released, then on $100,000 bond. Both these cases are listed as pending.

Willox was a Waterford High School basketball player

In current comments on the video uploaded to YouTube following game by The Norwich Bulletin in 2013, a person who said he knew Willox was shocked by the allegation but was not "rushing to judgment."

"This is actually shocking to me was in the same grade as David from 6th to 12th and we were always cool always good to me but im still not rushing to judgement we need to see what else comes out about the case."
