Correcting Rumors regarding proposed new Groton Charter

The group opposing the new charter seems to be using "scare" tactics to discourage citizens from approving their right to vote on budgets

To our Charter supporters..... 11/4/18

In the last few days, I've read very negative comments from the group
that's trying to keep the proposed Groton Charter from being adopted.
They've implied that we're proposing a "sham" and won't support the
school system or that we'll use the referendum process to slam future
proposed budgets, etc.

This is not the case at all and we are not trying to deprive Groton
children of a decent education...far from it. We are trying to use a
different approach to overall budgeting, including school costs. We
SUPPORT the education process.

Yesterday, I posted an article given to me by Dr. Genevieve Cerf which
specifically states that a purpose of the new Finance Board can be,
among other things, helping to control costs (and NOT cut education
needs) by using the following methods:

a) Buying supplies in bulk with other municipalities, including fuel oil, and negotiating better insurance contracts;

b) Developing stronger expertise in Financial Systems to improve our budget process; and

c) Modernizing our computer software systems with regional purchasing , with 10 year system life cycles.

So please do not be swayed by any "scare" tactics from a group who
seem to prefer having local party control, rather than local citizen
control, of town & school finances. Please vote "yes" on question 3
to give yourselves a voice.

And by all means, especially now, if you still have doubts or questions.....please let us know.
