Coyotes Spotted At Groton Golf Course: Report
Coyotes have been spotted throughout the summer at a Groton golf course, where they appear to have taken up residence.

GROTON, CT — Coyotes have been spotted throughout the summer at Shennecossett Golf Course in Groton, where they appear to have taken up residence, the New London Day reported. Workers at the course said the the animals have been digging holes in the green and sleeping in the sand pits.
According to the New London Day, early morning golfers have encountered the animals on an almost daily basis, and they do not appear to be afraid of humans. The coyotes have left golfers alone thus far, however the course is trying to figure out a way to take care of the issue.
According to the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection website, coyotes may exhibit bold behavior near people but the risk of one attacking a person is extremely low, however this risk can increase if they are intentionally fed and learn to associate people with food.

DEEP advises homeowners to eliminate sources of attraction to coyotes, including pet food left outdoors, table scraps on compost piles and decaying fruit below fruit trees. Coyotes will attack and kill pets, especially cats and small dogs, as well as livestock like sheep and chickens. Check the DEEP website for further information on coyotes.
