Driver Killed After Vehicle Strikes Pole In Groton Crash
A person died following an accident in Groton on Wednesday afternoon, police said.
GROTON, CT — A driver died after their vehicle struck a utility pole in Groton on Wednesday afternoon, according to Town of Groton police.
Emergency dispatch received calls at 1:22 p.m. reporting a single motor vehicle accident on Fort Hill Road between Depot Road and South Road.
Police arrived at the scene of the crash and found that a vehicle that had been traveling eastbound hit a utility pole on the south side of Fort Hill Road.

Police found the vehicle's driver unconscious. Other emergency responders arrived to provide medical aid and assist the driver, who was transported to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London.
Hospital personnel declared the person dead. The driver's identification is being withheld pending notification of their next of kin.

The Southeastern Connecticut Regional Traffic Unit is assisting in the investigation. The accident reconstruction team includes officers from several area police departments.
Fort Hill Road between Depot Road and South Road remains closed while the accident is being investigated.
