Dog Dies, Residents Displaced In Groton Apartment Building Fire
A fire broke out at a three-story apartment building Monday night.
GROTON, CT — Fire hit a three-story multifamily building in Groton on Monday night, according to a post from the Poquonnock Bridge Professional Firefighters Local 2704.
Firefighters were dispatched for a report of an apartment fire at 600 Meridian St. Ext.
Crews went to the third floor of the building and encountered heavy smoke. They stretched two hose lines to that floor and quickly knocked down the blaze, confining it to the original apartment.

Firefighters then searched all affected apartments. A dog died due to the smoke.
The American Red Cross was called to assist displaced residents.

Other emergency responders assisted at the scene including members from the City of Groton Fire Department, City of New London Fire Department, Mystic and Old Mystic Fire Departments, Electric Boat Fire Department, Groton Ambulance, Town of Groton Police, and• Lawrence & Memorial Medics.
"We extend our gratitude to all responding units for their hard work and teamwork," fire officials said. "Our thoughts are with the families affected by this fire."
