Ebenezer Avery House In Groton Receives $30,000 Grant

The Ebenezer Avery House in Groton has received a grant from the Society of the Cincinnati in the State of CT.

GROTON, CT - The nonprofit Avery Memorial Association recently received a grant for $3,000 from The Society of the Cincinnati in the State of CT towards a roof project. This will complete the exterior envelope of the Ebenezer Avery House, which was done over the last seven years.

The Ebenezer Avery House is located at 57 Fort Street in Groton, according to a release. The house is open to the public from Memorial Day through Labor Day on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from noon until 4 p.m.

Founded in 1895, the Avery Memorial Association documents the history of the Groton Avery Clan, preserves all family records and artifacts for future descendants and educates the public about the historical significance of the Avery family.

The AMA operates the Ebenezer Avery House, built by Parke Avery circa 1750 and located at Fort Griswold State Park. After the Battle of Groton Heights on September 6, 1781, the house was used as a makeshift hospital for wounded American soldiers.
