Elderly Pedestrian Hit and Killed While Getting Mail in Groton: Police

Police are still investigating the situation.

GROTON, CT - Police said they are investigating the death of a pedestrian who was hit and killed by a car Thursday, according to media reports.

Police said an elderly man was crossing Crystal Lake Road after 5 p.m. to get his mail when he was hit by a car, according to Fox 61. The incident occurred near the intersection with Pleasant Valley Road.

Police say the man was taken to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital where he later died, as reported by News 8. The driver was taken to the Pequot Health Center.

The victim's identity has not been released yet, according to News 8. Police said the accident is under investigation and have scheduled an autopsy.

The incident is one of three fatal incidents in which a pedestrian was killed that occurred within an hour Thursday night, Fox 61 reported. The other two occurred in Naugatuck and Danbury.
