Groton Regional Theatre (GRT) is well-known for its deft renditions of traditional comedies and dramas. But the group is delving into all-new theatrical territory with its upcoming production of Richard O’Brien’s Rocky Horror Show. This stage version of the famous cult rock ’n’ roll musical movie is actually the original; it preceded the film version by two years, premiering in London in 1973.
The story finds innocent, engaged couple Brad and Janet held prisoner in a creepy castle by the androgynous Dr. Frank N. Furter, who is building himself a muscle man named Rocky. Thrills and chills are many as Brad and Janet encounter the “Transylvanians” who inhabit Frank’s world and learn more about his sinister intentions. The show is directed by H. Victor Panciera; musical director is Nathaniel Baker and choreographer is Sara Jones. The cast includes Ken Schroeder as Frank N. Furter, Jane Hefel as Janet Weiss, Eric Bowles as Brad Majors, Mhari O’Donnell as Magenta, William Whalley as Riff Raff, Ruthie Mattison as Columbia, Michael Schroeder as Rocky, Harald Hefel as Eddie/Dr. Scott, and Ann Wimsey as the Narrator.
Performances will be Friday, June 22 at 8:00 PM, Saturday, June 23 at 7:00 PM and midnight, Sunday, June 24 at 4:00 PM, Friday, June 29 at 8:00 PM, and Saturday, June 30 at 8:00 PM. Tickets are $20.00 and must be purchased at the Senior Center in person or ordered by phone and paid for by check via mail. Tickets will also be sold at the door.
