Former Groton Firefighter Sentenced for Sexual Assault

Though his record was previously clean, he was forced to answer for crimes against a minor.

A former volunteer firefighter and EMT was sentenced Wednesday for sexual assault of a girl, 15, whom he knew, The Day reported.

Mark Stauffer, 37, was sentenced to a year in prison, followed by 10 years of strict probation, according to The Day. He will also be registered as a sex offender.

Stauffer had worked at Electric Boat as an EMT/firefighter and had volunteered with Ledyard Ambulance, as well as the Ledyard and Center Groton Fire Departments, as reported by The Day. He was arrested in November 2015 by Ledyard police for reportedly rubbing up against a minor inappropriately on a number of occasions and incarcerated, an act for which he apologized in court.
