Galbraith Re-Elected, Two Republicans, Four Democrats Elected to Council
Incumbent Republican Keith Hedrick also saw re-election and one other Republican. The balance of the council makeup are Democrats.
The results are in and Marian Galbraith has been re- elected mayor of City of Groton. Galbraith received 852 votes and Republican challenger, Groton Town Councilor James Streeter, received 696 votes.
"I'm grateful to the residents of the City for the confidence and faith they have in me. I look forward to working with the new Council on achieving the progress this City so richly deserves," Galbraith said in an emailed statement to Patch.
The top six vote getters earn seats on the Groton City Council, and those are: Republicans Keith Hedrick (783 votes) and Jay Dempsey (838 votes) and four Democrats; Andrew J. Ilvento (823 votes), William E. Jervis (777 votes), Stephen T. Sheffield (768 votes) and Lawrence W. Gerrish (749 votes).
The City of Groton has 5,048 registered voters. A total of 1,498 voted for a turnout of 29 percent, according to the registrar.
