Get Out: Five Great Things To Do This Weekend

Because It's No Fun To Stay Home All Weekend

Do not hit that snooze button. Don’t you dare roll over and hide under your pillow. We’re warning you now—there will be consequences if you let the weekend fly by without having fun. There will be no allowance, no TV and most definitely no dessert. So let’s just avoid these unnecessary punishments and have a little fun this weekend, deal?

1. WICKED AT THE BUSHNELL

WHERE/WHEN: Thursday at 7:30 p.m., Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 2 and 8 p.m. and Sunday at 1 and 6:30 p.m.

WHY GO: Just follow the yellow brick road to The Bushnell in Hartford to see everyone’s favorite witches!

WHERE/WHEN: Friday from 5 to 9:30 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

WHY GO: Mmm! May we suggest going with an empty stomach?

PRICING: Admission is free.

WHERE/WHEN: Friday from 6 to 11 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the fairgrounds on Route 117 in Ledyard Center.

WHY GO: Lots of rides plus tons of entertainment equals a jam-packed weekend of fair fun!

PRICING: General admission is $8, seniors and youth 11 to 18 pay $5 and kids 10 and under are free. Three-day passes are $12 in advance or $13 at the gate. Free shuttles will be available from the high school and junior high school.

4. WEEKEND LINEUP AT THE KATE IN OLD SAYBROOK

WHERE/WHEN: Ronnie Spector on Friday at 8 p.m., B. Willie Smith on Saturday at 8 p.m. and Cappella Cantorum Men’s Chorus on Sunday at 3 p.m.

WHY GO: You don’t want to miss these great acts—a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member, a favorite local blues band and some serious Sunday singing.

PRICING: Tickets for Ronnie Spector: “Beyond the Beehive” are $50 to $55; B. Willie Smith tickets are $25 and tickets for the Cappella Cantorum Men’s Chorus show are $16.

WHERE/WHEN: Sunday at Mystic Seaport.

WHY GO: Tons of pedal-to-the-metal fun!

PRICING: Bike show is free with museum admission.
