Good Fences and Good Neighbors

Fund raising for a new fence

For past years now, the Noank School park has been converted into a combination park, arboretum and public garden for Groton residents. The garden has flourished, partly due to the good location and consistent sunlight from east to west. A fence was created to help protect the garden from "critters." and we now need to build a new, much sturdier 6 foot chain link fence which will also have personnel and vehicle access gates.

The Noank Fire District has donated $5,000 towards this project to help get it started. As we should all know, the Town Staff has their hands full with the budget priorities this year, especially with the schools. So we are working with Mr. Mark Berry, the head of Groton Parks & Rec, with the intent to raise $10,000 more with private funding to meet the cost of a decent fence that will last a good long time...many years..

Therefore, we are asking for donations, which will be tax deductible, in order to build the fence that will fully cover the separate Groton citizen's gardens. Mr. Berry has instructed us that citizen's checks should be made out specifically to the "Groton Parks Foundation" (which is a 501C3 organization). If folks would like to drop off checks directly at the Spicer House office on Spicer Avenue in Noank, Mr. Berry will make sure that they are processed quickly.

If this is not convenient for some of you, you may mail the checks to me, still made out to the Foundation above, and I will make periodic stops at Mr. Berry's office. My office mail address is E.R. Johnson, P.O.Box 981, Groton, CT 06340-0981.

We hope to hear from as many of you as possible on this very worthwhile project. Thanks for reading this and forward this info to your neighbors or anyone who might be interested.
