'Good Samaritan' Killer Sentenced To 45 Years In Prison: Report
Court officials said the man charged with shooting a 24-year-old Groton man outside a local pub has been sentenced to prison.

GROTON, CT – The man charged with shooting and killing a 24-year-old Groton man outside a local pub in December 2016 has been sentenced to a minimum of 45 years in prison, Fox 61 reported. He was convicted of manslaughter.
According to Fox 61, police said Dante Hughes, 32, was charged with shooting Joey Gingerella outside Ryan's Pub after he allegedly tried to stop Hughes from beating his girlfriend. Gingerella was shot several times, and Hughes was subsequently arrested after he attempted to flee to Canada.
In late July, Hughes was found not guilty of murder but guilty of manslaughter with a firearm, according to News 8.

Hughes' attorney filed a motion in September for a new trial, claiming the accused did not receive a fair trial due to a juror admitting he looked up the definition of manslaughter during the trial, the New London Day reported.
