Groton 2017 Municipal Election Results: Democrats Sweep Republicans

GROTON, CT - Democrat Keith Hedrick won out in the municipal election race for mayor of Groton City on Monday, the New London Day reported. All six city council seats were also won by Democrats.

Unofficial results released Monday night reveal Hedrick defeated Republican Harry Watson by a vote of 763 to 594 and won his first term as mayor, according to the New London Day. Hedrick offered his hand to Watson and his supporters in order to help get the city back together. (To sign up for Groton breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

Democrats swept Republicans in the race for city council, with four candidates winning re-election and two newcomers elected, the New London Day reported. Democratic Town Clerk Deb Patrick also won re-election unopposed.
