Groton-Based Submarine Commander Relieved of Duties: Report

Navy Cmdr. Edward Byers had been in charge of the USS Dallas.

Navy Cmdr. Edward Byers, who was in charge of the USS Dallas nuclear submarine based in Groton, has been relieved of his duties, reports the Navy Times.

“The commanding officer of the Groton-based Los Angeles-class attack submarine USS Dallas (SSN 700) was relieved of his duties Feb. 2 due to loss of confidence in his ability to command,” Navy officials wrote in a statement, as reported by the Navy Times.

Byers has been replaced by Capt. Jack Houdeshell, a former commander of the sub.
