Groton City Police Praised For Help In Westerly Shooting
On the day of a tragic mass shooting in Westerly, RI, police from Ledyard, Stonington and Groton City helped local police secure the town.

WESTERLY, RI — On Dec. 19, an active shooting in a senior housing village that claimed the life of a beloved resident, police from all points came to help.
Groton City Police officer Paul Ruddy helped to secure a local school placed on lockdown during the manhunt for the shooter.
Westerly Police Chief Shawn Lacey told Patch, "We appreciated the response from Groton City in assisting during the incident in securing our schools. They responded not knowing what they were coming into, not knowing the area, and went to the assigned school and provided a level of security and comfort to the faculty and students as we were bringing closure to the incident."

The Westerly Town Council issued commendations to a number of agencies that helped their town that day including Groton City, Stonington and Ledyard Police departments.
