A Groton City Police Chase Ends With Crash & Arrest Of Driver
City of Groton police chased a car reported to have been stolen after the driver refused to stop. The pursuit ended with a crash and arrest.
GROTON, CT—Groton City police pursued a reported drunken driver who took off after a traffic stop Monday, police said. Shortly before 1 a.m., a city police officer tried to stop a reportedly stolen car going 20 miles over a posted speed limit, The Day reported.
The red Mazda was stolen from New London, though when and from where exactly was not immediately clear. The driver, 38-year-old Douglas M. McEwen, fled from police towards Five Corners when it crashed on Rainville Avenue, The Day reported. McEwen took off on foot, was chased and caught by Groton City Police Officer Jean Precourt .
McEwen, with no address provided, was charged by city police with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, first-degree larceny of a motor vehicle, interfering with an officer, driving without a license, engaging an officer in pursuit, evading responsibility and multiple motor vehicle violations, The Day reported.
