GROTON, CT — Republicans are calling for the apology and resignation of Democratic Town Councilor Aundré Bumgardner following comments he made on social media about President Donald Trump, The Day reported. Bumgardner made the comments following the presidential debate last week when Trump said, "Proud boys, stand back and stand by."

Bumgardner said that the comments showed Trump is a racist, "and he doesn't even care to hide it. If you vote for him, so are you," according to The Day.

A Republican Town Committee statement said that the post was "inappropriately divisive and highly offensive."
