Groton Driver Hit 120 MPH After Refusing To Stop For Cop, State Police Say

A local man was charged with reckless driving and other crimes after police said he fled a traffic stop.

GROTON, CT — A Groton man hit 120 mph in a chase with a trooper on I-395, according to state police.

A trooper was on I-395 northbound near exit 22 in Griswold on Wednesday at 2:25 a.m. when the trooper spotted an SUV catching up to their cruiser at a high rate of speed.

The silver Lexus RS 350 sport then passed the trooper, who followed.

The SUV was traveling at speeds up to 105 mph, and the trooper attempted to stop the car.

The driver didn't pull over and continued to speed away, now hitting speeds of up to 120 mph.

The SUV then left the highway at exit 24.

The driver was identified as Shane Ebersole, 55, of Groton, according to state police.

Town of Groton police later found Ebersole at his home at 3:56 a.m. He was arrested and charged with reckless driving, disobeying signal of an officer, and interfering with an officer/resisting.

He was held on $20,000 bond and scheduled to appear in Norwich Superior Court on Wednesday.
