Groton Food Service Workers Raise Money To Pay Student Meal Debt
Food service workers in Groton are raising money to pay off student meal debt.

GROTON, CT — Food service workers in Groton are raising money in an effort to ensure students without money still have access to a quality meal, NBC Connecticut reports.
According to NBC Connecticut, there are about 540 Groton Public Schools students who have delinquent school meal accounts, due in part to many families being just on the cusp of free and reduced lunch applications. This has resulted in about $14,000 in meal debt.
In response, local food service workers have created a new fundraising effort called “Feed Their Bodies. Fuel Their Minds,” according to NBC Connecticut. They have currently collected $3,500 through various fundraising efforts, and there are still more to come this year.
