Groton Hoax: Police Respond to Hostage Report
Police are investigating whether the Hazelnut Hill Road situation falls into the realm of swatting.
Groton Police responded to Hazelnut Hill Road on Wednesday, August 19, after hearing of a hostage situation in a home.
During the investigation, police discovered that no people were being held hostage and think someone may have engaged in swatting, The Day reported.
Swatting occurs when someone tricks an emergency responder into dispatching resources to someone’s home by telling them an illegal situation is occurring, such as a hostage case.
