Groton Man Sentenced for Sexual Assault of Teen

A New London judge imposed a lengthy prison sentence and probation term at a man who was convicted of sexually assaulting a teenager he knew.

Mark Crouch, 57, was sentenced to more than nine years (110 months) in prison, 20 years of probation and registration as a sex offender for 10 years., according to the New London Day. The maximum term under law could be 10 years, but imposing a slightly shorter sentence allowed for a longer probation term.

Crouch was found guilty of two counts of third-degree sexual assault after taking his case to a trial.

He was accused of taking the victim to the Sleep Inn and Motel 6 in Niantic for sexual encounters in the spring of 2013. The victim testified that she was scared and felt forced to participate.
