Groton Nursing Home Fined After Resident Injured

Five nursing homes in Connecticut were fined. A resident was injured while being moved from a wheelchair to a bed at Fairview in Groton.

Fairview Retirement Community in Groton received a $1,160 fine after a resident’s leg was injured during a transfer from their wheelchair into the bed, according to the Department of Health and Connecticut Health I-Team.

Fairview Retirement Community Home is located at 235 Lestertown Rd. In June 2015, staff were assisting with a patient who reportedly had fragile skin and required derma savers on their legs.

The protective gear was not put on the patient and when their leg hit a part of the bed, it resulted in a cut that needed 12 sutures.

Groton staff did not agree with all allegations but provided a correction plan detailing changes, which was accepted by the Department of Health.
